We develop innovative cancer therapies that minimise patient suffering and improve treatment outcomes. We rethink chemotherapeutic strategies, uncover new mechanisms of action and develop site-specific therapeutics.
The department explores how digital technologies are transforming medicine and nursing. Its focus is on new decision-making processes, changing responsibilities, and the reshaping of medical and health-related knowledge through digital systems.
The Department of Human Genetics at Ruhr University Bochum focuses on the genetic foundations of health and disease. Its work centres on the research, diagnosis and counselling of hereditary diseases, as well as the analysis of the genetic causes of complex diseases.
The Department of Medical Bioinformatics focuses on the comprehensive analysis of various types of omics data, including sequencing data from areas such as transcriptomics, genomics and proteomics. In addition to developing powerful bioinformatics workflows and pipelines for processing large datasets, the research group focuses on integrating different types of omics data.

The Department of Medical Informatics, Biostatistics and Epidemiology combines methodological expertise with medical research and teaching. It provides a foundation in medical data analysis, evidence-based research and computer-based information processing.
The Department of Molecular Gastrointestinal Oncology at Ruhr University Bochum focuses on investigating the molecular mechanisms of tumours in the digestive tract and translating these findings into diagnostics and therapies.

The Medical Proteome Centre is a leading institute for proteomics and protein analysis. Using state-of-the-art technologies, it investigates questions in clinical medicine and basic research, creating new perspectives for precision medicine.
Centre for Medical Psychology and Translational Neuroscience
Our interdisciplinary research at the interface of psychology and medicine investigates biopsychosocial mechanisms and risk factors in common disorders such as chronic pain, anxiety disorders and depression. The aim is to better understand disease processes and develop innovative treatment approaches.
