Study locations
Bochum
Ruhr University Bochum is a campus university located in Bochum-Querenburg. Most of the pre-clinical training takes place in the MA building on campus. From the first clinical semester onwards, teaching is mainly transferred to the University Hospital of Ruhr University Bochum (UK RUB).
The UK RUB comprises several university hospitals where you will receive training during your studies, including the Knappschaft Kliniken University Hospital Bochum (Link), the Catholic Hospital Bochum (Link), the Bergmannsheil University Hospital Bochum (Link), the LWL University Hospital Bochum (Link) and the Marienhospital Herne University Hospital (Link).
The LWL University Hospital Hamm (Link) is also part of the UK RUB, but does not participate in the compulsory teaching prior to the practical year. Individual lectures and seminars in the clinical study section continue to take place on the RUB campus.
Thanks to Bochum's well-developed public transport system, all locations are easily accessible. The U35 campus line connects the campus with the city centre and runs every five minutes. As one of the largest universities in Germany, Ruhr University Bochum offers a comprehensive infrastructure – from canteens and study and recreation areas to a wide range of university sports. Skills labs are available both in the MA building on campus and at the UK RUB locations, where practical medical skills for everyday clinical practice can be trained.
In order to provide you with the best possible support at the various clinic locations, there is a teaching coordinator at each clinic. They are available as a permanent point of contact for organisational and content-related questions about teaching on site.
Ostwestfalen-Lippe
From the 7th semester onwards, 60 students continue their studies in Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL). The Admissions Office at Ruhr-Universität Bochum carries out a selection procedure in the 5th semester, i.e. at the beginning of the clinical study phase, and coordinates the allocation to the locations. Individual wishes and circumstances are taken into account as far as possible.
The main training location in OWL is the Johannes Wesling Klinikum Minden (Link) with the affiliated Medizin Campus OWL.
Parts of the practical training also take place at the Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW (Link) as well as in the university departments of the Klinikum Herford (Kreiskliniken Herford-Bünde) (Link) and at the Zentrum für Seelische Gesundheit in Lübbecke (Link).
Distances are short at the Minden campus. During their first semester at the OWL campus, students benefit from a shuttle bus service to the teaching locations in Herford, Lübbecke and Bad Oeynhausen. Additional transport options are available as the course progresses. All organisational matters – from state examinations to the acquisition of credit points for a doctorate – can be dealt with entirely on site in OWL. The comparatively small number of students creates a personal and intensive learning atmosphere in everyday clinical practice.
The Medicine Campus OWL at the Johannes Wesling Clinic offers modern lecture halls, seminar rooms, a library with PC workstations and a lounge as a recreation area for students. Skills labs are also available here for learning practical medical skills. The teaching coordination team, the OWL student council and the Department of General Medicine are also located on campus and are available to assist students with any study-related questions.
