Sample preparation using the gentleMACS Octo Dissociator

The gentleMACS Octo Dissociator with heating elements from Miltenyi Biotec GmbH is a device for fully automated, standardized tissue dissociation or homogenization of up to eight samples simultaneously. After a brief training, the device can be operated by users themselves.

Equipment & Functions

The device features eight individually controllable heating units and a wide range of optimized, ready-to-use programs that enable a fully automated, highly reproducible workflow for tissue dissociation. Producing single-cell suspensions with C-Tubes or homogenates with M-Tubes ensures particularly easy handling and significantly higher reproducibility compared to manual dissociation. By using gentleMACS tubes, the system operates closed and sterile, enhances user safety, and reliably minimizes the risk of sample contamination.

Flexibility & Range of application

The device enables the creation of user-defined programs for nearly any biological tissue from different species (e.g., mouse, rat, or human). This allows the sample material to be dissociated especially gently and to be in optimal condition for subsequent in vitro experiments or direct analyses.
